Greater protection for employees at Battersea Dogs Home

Multitone, specialist developer of integrated critical communications, installs lone worker solution

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, now known as Battersea, takes in dogs and cats, gives them the expert care they need and finds them new homes that are just right for them. They help pet owners make informed choices, provide training advice, and campaign for changes in the law. They also help other rescue centres and charities at home and abroad.

The non-Government funded organisation has cared for more than 3.1 million dogs and cats since it was founded in 1860.

In 2008, Battersea commissioned Hampshire-based specialist developer of integrated critical communications, Multitone, to upgrade its system for lone worker communications. Multitone is well known for providing employee protection solutions for large site deployments such as Battersea.

Battersea required a lone worker protection solution for their animal handlers across their three sites: Battersea in London, Old Windsor and Brands Hatch in Kent.

The charity was looking for an efficient employee warning system which, when deployed, would have little to no impact on their existing building infrastructure and, during deployment, minimal disruption to their day-to-day operational work processes.

The Battersea sites include breakout areas, paddocks, veterinary facilities, offices and several buildings onsite which house the animals and their exercise areas. The project involved deploying an extensive volume of wireless repeaters, which act as the backbone communication conduit responsible for relaying any alert or "call for assistance" generated by employee held call fobs across a vast area and delivering these alerts to responder pagers in a fraction of a second.

As a result of this project, Battersea is rewarded with a seamless, reliable and robust lone worker solution, which provides employee protection and peace of mind for animal welfare handlers.

Charles Morgan, Multitone’s Account Manager said:

“I am pleased and excited that Multitone is providing such a critical solution deployment and service that supports the employees of this major animal welfare charity.

As Battersea continues to expand its Multitone lone worker portfolio of products I, along with the team at Multitone, look forward to a continued working partnership supporting the charity and its workers.”

The solution continues to evolve; the Battersea site in London recently opened a large, newly refurbished building and the system is being expanded to provide coverage there.
